Brazil exchange program seeks applicants
STAR PRESS STAFF REPORT
MUNCIE - The two Muncie Rotary Clubs are seeking young professionals
from East Central Indiana to apply for an expense-paid trip to San Paulo,
Brazil, in May 2001.
This opportunity is part of the Group Study Exchange Program of the Rotary
Foundation that facilitates exchange visits of teams of young professionals
between paired countries.
The purpose of a Group Study Exchange is to promote international goodwill
and understanding through person-to-person contact. This particular
exchange, with Rotary District 4590 in Brazil, will emphasize music. While
in
San Paulo team members will stay in the homes of local Rotarians and have
the opportunity to meet with their professional counterparts. During the
visit,
team members will share personal knowledge of their own country and
experience the customs and lifestyles of that portion of Brazil.
Applicants must be ages 25-40, be employed full-time and not be directly
related to a member of Rotary International. All candidates must reside
or be
employed in Rotary District 6560, which includes the central third of Indiana.
Desired attributes for these team members include musical abilities,
Portuguese or Spanish language skills, cultural curiosity and the ability
to
adapt to different customs. Candidates should be young business and
professional people who are accomplished musicians.
The four applicants selected for this Group Study Exchange will participate
in
pre-departure orientation, be accompanied by a District 6560 Rotarian Team
Leader, and will have their round-trip airfare provided. San Paulo Rotarian
families will provide meals, lodging and group travel within their district.
The
team will make presentations at local Rotary Club meetings about Indiana
and the United States.
Applications are due by 5 p.m. Sept. 30. Qualified applicants will be
interviewed in Muncie during the week of Oct. 2-6. Candidates
recommended by the Muncie Rotary Clubs will be interviewed by District
6560 officers in Kokomo on Oct. 21.
